Frequently Ask Questions
If my Child Needs Help Controlling His/Her Actions. Will studying Martial Arts make it worse?
Actually, no. I know it might seem counterintuitive, the reality is that because our Martial Arts students like the physical part of our classes (the punching, kicking, blocking, exercises, self-defense, forms and everything else) they are willing to listen and apply the CORE Values of Martial Arts (discipline, patience, self-control, thinking before acting, etc.).
The traditional martial arts style really does work. Our students develop so much confidence in their ability they know they can de-escalate most situations and not use their Martial Arts training outside of the studio because they don’t want to injury anyone. You really have to see it to believe it.
How frequently do we need to come to class and when are your classes held?
Our programs fit into almost any schedule (please remember, each family that takes classes with us are very busy schedules too!). We have students who are effective in our program at only once a day a week, and we have students who love classes so much that they plead with their parents to bring them every time we are open.
If you enter your email we will send you to the next page where we will show you our schedule and special trial offer. If you have questions about the schedule (it may not be clear which class is right for your child), there’s an area on that page to ask questions of me.
My Child is EXTREMELY Shy, I feel like there is no way she/he will start something new like this.
We see this day in and day out, and truthfully, it can definitely be a challenge for all parties involved, However, like I said, we see it day in and day out, and it is one of the most rewarding parts of my job is to help your child learn to overcome their anxieties. In real world activities, hesitation and shyness is a real crutch; the coach or teacher are often aggravated, and the shy child will hold the class back.
However, because we focus on the individual, it doesn’t hurt our class at all. When your child starts to believe that we are going to help him/her anyways if whether he/she is shy or brave, they will open up and it will start a series of events of confidence building that you will drop your jaw. We know because we see children grow each and every day.

Is It Okay to try it before we sign up?
“Absolutely!” We always start with a Trial Program. It is very important not only for you as a prospective student to have the ability to make sure our program will be beneficial to your child. The trial program ensures it appropriately meets your goals as parents.
We will teach life lessons, challenge limits, and we set short & long terms goals. So it is imperative that our values are similar before we begin that life changing journey.
Is martial arts safe? Will I get hurt?
Safety is always my number one priority. While you risk injury anytime you choose to participate in any activity, in my experience, I see fewer injuries in our classes than in other children’s activities such as (football, baseball, softball, football, etc.).
We occasionally receive calls informing us the student cannot come to class due to, they were injured in a different activity.
I have not been active in years. Do I need to do anything before enrolling?
Not at all. While we absolutely suggest maintaining an active lifestyle, if you have not exercised in years, our beginner classes are perfect for you.
We specifically focus this class on helping students not only learn the basic foundations of traditional martial arts but on building physical endurance, flexibility, and strength. Before you know it, you’ll be looking and feeling fantastic.
Will this be really hard on my body? And is it violent?
But if a fight has to happen, they’re ready to defend themselves to perfection.
So no, Kosho-Ryu-Jiu Jitsu and Kajukenbo is not violent.
